Visit of H.I.H. Princess Akiko of Mikasa to Luxembourg
On 17.03.2026, H.R.H. Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg received H.I.H. Princess Akiko of Mikasa in audience at the Grand Ducal Palace during her visit to the country.
H.R.H. Grand Duke Henri met with Princess Akiko at the Museum Dräi Eechelen on the same day.
At the museum, which is situated in a restored 18th century fort in Luxembourg city and houses a permanent exhibition on city‘s fortress history,
Their Highnesses were then presented a “Senninbari”, a Japanese decorated cloth given to soldiers by their families as a protective charm.
Holder of a PhD in Japanese Art History from Oxford University‘s Merton College, H.I.H. Princess Akiko held a public lecture entitled „The Art of Copying – Creating Reproductions for the West“ at the museum.
The encounters illustrate the strong ties between the Grand Ducal Family and the Japanese Imperial Family.
