Visa to Luxembourg

General information:  

  • A valid passport with a visa is required for citizens of the following countries: List
  • The procedure for the visa application depends on the period and the purpose of the visit.
  • Applications must be submitted on appointment at the Embassy by the applicant him/herself  at least 15 working days before the planned departure date, but no earlier than three months before the planned departure.
  • Visa C (short-term) application fee: 90 EUR (45 EUR for children aged 6-12 years) - to be paid in EURO bank notes at the time of application (no other form of payment is accepted).

Documents required for a short stay visa

- All documents should be in English or in French. All other documents should be accompanied by a translation.

- Visa C Application fee: EUR 90 EUR as of 11/06/2024 (to be paid in cash in EURO bank notes).

- Only persons residing in Japan may submit an application at the Embassy in Tokyo.

  • 1 completed visa application form (Pdf, 145 Kb) 
  • 1 coloured ID photo (height 45mm x width 35mm, on a white background, head height 32 - 36mm) (Please bring the picture separately, do not put it on the application form)
  • A valid passport or a travel permit recognized by the Schengen countries + 1 copy of the first page of the applicant’s passport. The travel document presented must be valid at least three months after the intended date of departure from the Member States in case of a single-entry visa application. For a multiple-entry visa application, the travel document must be valid three months after the last intended date of departure.
  • Japanese resident card, valid for at least three months after your return from the Schengen area (original + 1 copy of front and back pages)
  • Proof of a travel medical insurance covering the entire period of the applicant’s intended stay valid throughout the Schengen area. The insurance needs to include repatriation services, emergency medical treatment and hospitalisation. The minimum coverage shall be 30.000 EUR.
  • Written proof relating to the reason for the journey:
    • Official invitation letter for a business trip
    • Hotel reservation or Formal obligation** (for those who intend to stay at a Luxembourg resident's house)
    • Round trip flight ticket or reservation
    • Proof of sufficient means of subsistence (bank statements over the previous 3 months, guarantee letter from the company or organization paying for travel expenses, etc.)
    • Guarantee letter in English (letter of employment from the employer / enrollment certificate from the school)
    • Detailed travel itinerary

Additional documents may be required depending on the purpose of travel.

**The pledge of financial support (engagement de prise en charge) must be approved in advance by the Passport, Visa and Legalization Office in Luxembourg in accordance with Article 4 of the law of 29 August 2008 on the free movement of persons and immigration. The form, once it has been completed and legalized by the guarantor’s municipality of residence, must be sent by ordinary or registered post to the aforementioned department, together with the last three salary slips (or a document certifying monthly income) and a copy of the passport/identity card (and also, where necessary, proof that the guarantor is authorized to reside in the Grand Duchy).
