Nobel Prize in Physiology/ Medicine 2011 awarded to Prof. Jules A. Hoffmann

The Embassy of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg in Tokyo proudly addresses its warmest congratulations to Luxembourg born Prof. Jules A. Hoffmann, who was awarded the 2011 Nobel Prize in physiology/medicine, together with Bruce A.Beutler and Ralph A. Steinman, for his discoveries in the field of the activation of innate immunity.

Born in 1941 in Echternach (Luxembourg), Prof. Hoffmann later studied and taught at the University of Strasbourg, where he was a research director at the CNRS Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology.

A member of numerous academies of science in Europe, Russia and America and a President of the French National Academy of Sciences, Prof. Jules Hoffmann was awarded in 2010, together with Prof. Shizuo Akira of Osaka University, the prestigious Keio Medical Science Prize.
