Francesco Tristano x Saburo Teshigawara, piano/dance project "Reunion"

Published Tuesday February 07 2012

The Embassy announces the one-time evening performance of ‘Reunion - Goldberg Variations’, by Luxembourg born pianist Francesco Tristano and Japanese dancers Saburo Teshigawara and Rihoko Sato on February 16th 2012 at 7 p.m. at Sumida Triphony Hall.

The program comprising Francesco Tristano’s own compositions ‘Hello’ and ‘Nach Wasser Noch Erde’ as well as excerpts from J.S. Bach’s ‘Goldberg Variations’ and John Cage’s ‘In a Landscape’ reflects the artists’ unconventional approach. They go beyond the usual stylistic territories, combining past and present, rhythm and dance.

Francesco Tristano is well known in Japan. He gave concerts every year for the last few years. He studied in Brussels, Riga, Paris, Luxembourg, Barcelona and at the New York Juilliard School. He ventures beyond classical into baroque, electronic music and jazz repertoires, merging several styles. In-depth study of the works of Bach, Berio, Frescobaldi and Cage are the basis of his musical and artistic explorations.

His unconventional approach is shared by Japanese dancer and choreographer Saburo Teshigawara, internationally renowned for his performances spanning classical ballet and the visual arts, art exhibitions as well as films and videos. Teshigawara San is the founder and director of the very well known KARAS group. On February 16th he will be joined by his long-time assistant and acclaimed dancer Rihoko Sato, also a member of KARAS.
